In Short: We process your information to provide, improve and administer our Services, communicate with you, provide Open Banking and AI-powered features, maintain security, prevent fraud and comply with law. We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent.

We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on how you interact with our Services, including:

To facilitate account creation and authentication and otherwise manage user accounts. We may process your information so you can create and log in to your account, as well as keep your account in working order.

To deliver and facilitate delivery of services to the user. We may process your information to provide you with the requested service.

To provide Open Banking and connected account features. We may process your account and transaction information to provide financial overviews, budgeting tools, transaction categorisation, insights, recommendations and related features.

To refresh connected account information. We may process your information to automatically and periodically refresh connected account data in order to keep the Services up to date.

To provide AI-powered features. We may process your information to generate transaction categories, financial summaries, spending insights, budgeting suggestions, recommendations, support responses and other AI-powered outputs.

To respond to user inquiries and offer support to users. We may process your information to respond to your inquiries and solve any potential issues you might have with the requested service.

To send administrative information to you. We may process your information to send you details about our products and services, changes to our terms and policies, and other similar information.

To improve the Services. We may process information about how you use the Services, including feature usage, feedback and technical information, to maintain, troubleshoot, test, improve and develop the Services. Where possible, we use aggregated, anonymised or pseudonymised information for this purpose.

To maintain security and prevent fraud. We may process your information to keep the Services safe and secure, prevent fraud, troubleshoot issues and protect users and others.

To comply with law and protect legal rights. We may process your information where necessary to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, exercise or defend legal claims, or enforce our terms and policies.

To save or protect an individual's vital interest. We may process your information when necessary to save or protect an individual's vital interest, such as to prevent harm.

3. HOW DO WE USE OPEN BANKING AND CONNECTED ACCOUNT DATA?

In Short: If you connect a bank account, we may receive and process account and transaction information to provide and improve the Services.

If you choose to connect a bank account, we may receive account information from your selected bank or from our Open Banking service providers, currently Plaid Technologies, Inc. and Salt Edge Inc. This information may include account details, balances, transaction dates, transaction amounts, merchant names, merchant descriptions, transaction categories and other information made available through the relevant connection.

Your connected account information may be collected both when you manually initiate a synchronisation and automatically on a recurring basis. We use automatic refreshes to keep your financial overview, budgets, transaction categorisation, insights, recommendations and other App features up to date.

The frequency and availability of automatic refreshes may depend on your bank, the relevant Open Banking service provider, technical availability and how you use the Services.

You can disconnect a connected bank account or withdraw the relevant consent at any time through the App or through the relevant Open Banking service provider, where available. Disconnecting a bank account will stop future collection of information from that account, but it will not automatically delete information that has already been collected and processed by us. You may request deletion of your personal data as described in this Privacy Policy.

4. HOW DO WE USE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE?

In Short: Some features of the Services may be powered by artificial intelligence, machine learning or similar technologies. We do not permit third-party AI service providers to use your personal data to train their AI models.

We may use artificial intelligence, machine learning or similar technologies to provide, maintain, improve and support features of the Services. These features may include transaction categorisation, financial summaries, spending insights, budgeting suggestions, personalised recommendations, anomaly detection, customer support and other App functionality. Where you interact directly with an AI system, such as an AI-powered support or chat feature, we will make this clear to you.

Where relevant, AI-powered features may process information available in the Services, including account information, transaction data, app activity, messages, prompts, feedback and other information you provide or generate when using the Services.

Providing these features involves profiling within the meaning of applicable data protection law, meaning that we analyse information such as your transactions and app activity in order to understand spending patterns and provide categorisation, insights and recommendations that are relevant to you. We do not, however, make any decisions based solely on automated processing that produce legal effects concerning you or that similarly significantly affect you.

We may use third-party artificial intelligence service providers, such as Anthropic, to help us provide AI-powered features. These providers may process personal data to provide certain artificial intelligence, machine learning and natural language processing functionality, such as transaction categorisation, financial summaries, spending insights, recommendations and support functionality.

We do not permit third-party AI service providers to use your personal data to train, improve or develop their artificial intelligence models. AI service providers may process your personal data only to provide the relevant functionality to us, in accordance with our instructions and applicable contractual safeguards.

We aim to limit the personal data shared with AI service providers to what is reasonably necessary for the relevant feature. Where appropriate, we may remove, mask, pseudonymise or minimise information before it is processed by an AI service provider.

AI-generated outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete or not up to date. They are provided for informational and budgeting purposes only and do not constitute financial, investment, legal, tax or other professional advice.

5. WHAT LEGAL BASES DO WE RELY ON TO PROCESS YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?

In Short: We only process your personal information when we believe it is necessary and we have a valid legal reason to do so under applicable law, such as your consent, performance of a contract, compliance with legal obligations, protection of vital interests or our legitimate interests.

If you are located in the EU, EEA or UK, this section applies to you. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR require us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on in order to process your personal information. We may rely on the following legal bases:

Consent. We may process your information if you have given us permission to use your personal information for a specific purpose. This may include where you choose to connect a bank account through the Open Banking feature or where you choose to enable optional features that require consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time, although this may affect your ability to use certain features.

Performance of a Contract. We may process your personal information when we believe it is necessary to fulfil our contractual obligations to you, including providing the Services or at your request prior to entering into a contract with you. This includes processing necessary to provide account creation, budgeting tools, connected account features, transaction categorisation, financial summaries, insights, recommendations, AI-powered features and customer support.

Legal Obligations. We may process your information where we believe it is necessary for compliance with our legal obligations, such as to cooperate with a law enforcement body or regulatory agency, exercise or defend our legal rights, maintain required records, or disclose your information as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.

Legitimate Interests. We may process your information where it is necessary for our legitimate interests and your interests and fundamental rights do not override those interests. This may include maintaining, securing, troubleshooting, testing, improving and developing the Services, preventing fraud, understanding how users interact with the Services and improving the accuracy and performance of our features. Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider and balance any potential impact on your rights.

Vital Interests. We may process your information where we believe it is necessary to protect your vital interests or the vital interests of a third party, such as situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person.

If you are located in Canada, this section applies to you. We may process your information if you have given us specific permission, meaning express consent, to use your personal information for a specific purpose, or in situations where your permission can be inferred, meaning implied consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time. In some exceptional cases, we may be legally permitted under applicable law to process your information without your consent, including where collection or processing is permitted or required by applicable law, such as for investigations, fraud detection and prevention, business transactions, compliance with legal process, or other purposes recognised under applicable Canadian privacy laws.

In Short: We may share personal information with service providers and partners that help us provide, operate, secure and improve the Services.

Open Banking service providers. If you use the Open Banking feature, we may share and receive information with Open Banking service providers, currently Plaid Technologies, Inc. and Salt Edge Inc., in order to connect your bank account(s), retrieve account information and provide connected account features.

Payment providers. If you make purchases or subscribe to paid features, payment information may be processed by payment providers or app store providers, such as Apple, in accordance with their own terms and privacy notices.

AI service providers. We may share personal data with carefully selected artificial intelligence and machine learning service providers, such as Anthropic, to help us provide AI-powered features, including transaction categorisation, financial summaries, spending insights, recommendations and support functionality. These providers may process personal data only to provide the relevant functionality to us. We do not permit them to use your personal data to train their AI models, and we require appropriate contractual safeguards for the protection of your personal data.

Business transfers. We may share or transfer your information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, acquisition or similar transaction involving all or part of our business.

Legal obligations and rights. We may share information where we believe it is necessary to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, cooperate with public authorities, protect our rights, prevent fraud or security issues, or protect the rights, property or safety of users or others.

We do not sell your personal data.

7. DO WE TRANSFER YOUR INFORMATION INTERNATIONALLY?

In Short: We are based in Sweden and primarily process personal data within the European Economic Area (EEA). Some of our service providers are located outside the EEA, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA, we use appropriate safeguards.

We are established in Sweden and primarily store and process personal data within the EEA. However, some of the third-party service providers we use, including Open Banking service providers such as Plaid Technologies, Inc. and AI service providers such as Anthropic, are established in, or may process personal data in, countries outside the EEA, including the United States.

Where we transfer personal data to countries outside the EEA, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ensure that the transfer is subject to appropriate safeguards in accordance with applicable data protection law. Depending on the recipient, such safeguards may include: an adequacy decision by the European Commission, including transfers to recipients in the United States that are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework; the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, supplemented where necessary by additional technical and organisational measures; or other transfer mechanisms recognised under applicable data protection law.

You may contact us at hello@buddy.download to obtain more information about the safeguards we use for international transfers, including, where relevant, a copy of the applicable safeguards.

8. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?

In Short: We keep personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and enforce our agreements.

We will keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law, such as for tax, accounting, fraud prevention, security, dispute resolution or other legal requirements.

If you disconnect a bank account, we will stop collecting new information from that account through the relevant connection. However, we may continue to retain information that has already been collected where it is necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy or as required or permitted by law.

If you delete your account or request deletion of your personal data, we will delete or anonymise your personal information unless we are required or permitted to retain it for legal, security, fraud prevention, accounting, dispute resolution or other legitimate purposes.

Where deletion is not immediately possible, for example because information is stored in backup archives, we will securely store the information and isolate it from further processing until deletion is possible.

9. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?

In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organisational and technical security measures.

We have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organisational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process.

Where we use Open Banking providers, AI service providers or other third-party processors, we require appropriate contractual, technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal data. We also seek to limit the personal data shared with service providers to what is reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose.

However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. We cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals or other unauthorised third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal or modify your information. Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this privacy notice.
